Lecturer Scientific Research Conference at DTU

On January 20th, DTU hosted the Lecturer Scientific Research Conference.  Setting aside one day for the conference, DTU wished it to be a practical and useful forum to fan the flames of passion for research and to give scientists and lecturers an opportunity to exchange and share their latest research results, as well as to expand the depth of their future research.

The conference attracted abstracts from a great many researchers and lecturers. Eighty of them were presented at the conference. To give researchers and teachers rapid access to each other’s research and to allow them to discuss each talk in depth, the conference was divided into five parallel sessions. Session 1 was devoted to Technology and Engineering, with research that currently attracts the interest of researchers nationally and abroad, such as “Communications system applying chaos engineering”; “Analysis of cooperative networks for energy transmission using many relays”; “Solutions for sustainable design and architecture”; “Green architecture needs a more comprehensive and deeper view”; “Design and construction of a welding defect checking robot”; “Using differential evolutionary algorithms to optimize progress and financial efficiency according to Vietnamese construction project management practices”; and so on.

Session 2 was devoted to Economics and Tourism. A lot of scientific research was reported on, such as “Underground banks, ‘black credit’, and opportunities for microcredit”; “KPI research: Applications in efficiency assessment of hiring activities”; “Travel and hospitality business services in Danang: Current situation and some development solutions to meet requirements of integration” and others. There were also talks offering in-depth solutions to some educational issues at DTU, such as “Assessing the impact of educational reform on PBL teaching to PSU standard Business Administration students”;  “The influence of social network Facebook on student training: Research at the DTU International School”; “Factors impacting on English language skills of International School students at DTU”, and so on.
The third session, about the Health Sciences, provided the attendees with information about many diseases and how to avoid them, such as “Epidemiology of blood-sucking insect Triatoma rubrofasciata in Central Vietnam”; “Parasitic flukes in freshwater snails in Vietnam”, and “Research of quality of life and factors influencing quality of life of breast cancer patients under treatment at the Danang Cancer Hospital”.

Session 4 of the Social Sciences and session 5 of the Natural Sciences presented many research works offering attendees new perspectives on culture and spirituality, such as “Vietnamese bingo: a comparison to Chinese folk card games”; “Tolerance and optimism in Nguyen Du’s Tale of Kieu”; “Vocational training of rural workers in Vietnam in relation to regional and international integration”; and so on, and also research useful for improving living standards, such as “Production and research of luminescent materials used in high-tech lights” and “Study of the determination of phosphor content of a number of grains using UV-vi  molecular adsorption spectroscopy”.

The Teacher Scientific Research Conference acknowledges the efforts of staff and lecturers and their meaningful research. According to the assessment by the session chair people, the talks went deep into their respective research areas and many topics were of practical use, had scientific style, touched on practical subjects, found many new both qualitative and quantitative research methods, and realized many experiments with high accuracy.

In 2016, DTU gained significant achievements in scientific research.  Among them, DTU published 218 international articles, including 207 in ISI-listed journals out of which 140 had a DTU author as main or as corresponding author. This result doubles the number of 2015, when the university had 105 international publications with 101 in ISI-listed journals. Most recently, with all 26 outstanding ISI publications contributing to the scientific research of Danang, DTU scientists were rewarded at the Danang City 2016 honors ceremony for “Individuals with outstanding achievements in Science & Technology”. Dr Le Nguyen Bao, DTU Vice Provost, was honored as one of twenty exemplary people of Danang active in Science & Technology in the period 1997-2017 with a certificate of merit for his outstanding achievements in education and scientific research.

Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co, DTU President and Provost, said: “From a training college lacking in students with about 7,500 students in 2004, the university has gone to about 20,000 students per year in 2016. The university has opened many majors and many levels, from college and university undergraduates to Master’s and PhDs. Together with education, research has made some great steps forward with 207 ISI publications in 2016. This results from the determined work by the staff and lecturers. I hope that, after today’s conference, 100% of our lecturers will engage in scientific research and that, in the coming years, each field will hold its own research conference where lecturers can show their research capabilities and contribute to the improvement of education at our university.”

Alongside its training and research activities, DTU annually organizes conferences like the Student Scientific Research Conference and the Lecturer Scientific Research Conference, in addition to many international conferences on Tourism, Information Technology, Spectroscopy, and so on, which are attended by world-leading research specialists. These meaningful activities help DTU staff, lecturers, and students grasp the newest information on the current research situation nationally and globally, to follow useful and practical research avenues effectively in the future.
