Capitalizing on their self-confidence in national competitions, DTU students won one second, one third and two consolation prizes in the general, specialized and college sections of the 25th Vietnamese Student Informatics Olympiad, which took place from November 30th to December 2nd at Nha Trang University.
The Vietnamese Student Informatics Olympiad is organized by the Vietnam Association of Information Processing, the Vietnam Student Union and the Ministry of Education and Training, and is aimed at promoting the study of Informatics and encouraging young Informatics talent. In 2016, the 25th event was held at Nha Trang University, with 350 students from 70 universities and colleges nationwide. The Supercup attracted 64 contestants, the specialized section 140, the general section 90, the college section 36 and the open-source software section 27.

Nine DTU students took part in the five sections. After three days of competition against skilled IT and Informatics students from all over Vietnam, the talented DTU students proved themselves by taking home some valuable prizes. Tran Truong Thien Nguyen won second prize in the general Informatics section and Tran Cong Son a consolation prize. Tran Vu Thanh Son won third prize in the college section, and a consolation prize in the specialised informatics section went to Nguyen Chien Thang.
Tran Truong Thien Nguyen, a DTU CMU student of Network Security major explained, “I am very surprised, as I am still a first-year beginner at DTU, but was selected participate, and came second. I trained briefly with my DTU lecturers but gained enough experience to succeed in this contest. I want to become a skilled security specialist and my experience in the Student Informatics Olympiad and others will help me improve my reasoning and problem-solving and give me a broader understanding of Informatics and Security, so that I can become more self-confident in my future career.”
DTU had already won big prizes in previous contests. Ta Ba Thanh Huy won first prize in the 2008 Informatics Olympiad, Mai Van Minh came third in the 2010 Informatics Olympiad and Do Bao Linh third in the 2011 Informatics Olympiad. In the 2012 Student Informatics Olympiad, DTU won one second, one third, and three consolation prizes and in the 2013 Student Informatics Olympiad, which DTU hosted, DTU won two second, four third, and two consolation prizes.
With these strong academic achievements in national and international competitions, DTU continues to affirm its talent and courage and the high quality of the university.
