The Business Implementation of a DTU Product

DTU participated in this year’s “Research Students’ EUREKA”, an annual competition organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and the National University Ho Chi Minh City, presenting their Automatic Cocktail Mixer. It was one of the projects proposed for business implementation in Ho Chi Minh City.

1,435 students from 75 universities, colleges and institutes nationwide presented 621 projects in education, economics, engineering, law, architecture and construction planning, information technology, food technology, chemical and biotechnology, medicine and pharmacy, agriculture, forestry and fishing, social science and humanities, resource management and the environment.

The DTU Faculty of Electrical Engineering team’s Automatic Cocktail Mixer, which is able to automatically mix a variety of cocktails, was accepted for implementation at the Cafe Y Tuong. The drinks can be ordered by customers from a menu on their Smartphones using a Bluetooth connection, without a waiter. After they place the order, the machine will automatically mix the preset ingredients, according to the type of drink. Initial research and experimentation show that the system is quick, accurate and mixes the drinks well.

“Danang is a dynamic, evolving tourist destination where the bars, cafes, restaurants and hotels are growing increasingly diverse,” explained Bui Tan Tai from the DTU Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the group leader. “Although they all provide free Wi-Fi, waiters still serve the customers at the tables. With the “Automatic Cocktail Dispenser” which provides a smart bar, establishments will save time and staff and please their clients, who can now order their drinks remotely from their tables using an attractive and easy-to-use interface, without having to call a waiter.”

With its unique features, the dispenser could be quickly adopted in the marketplace. Dr. Le Nguyen Bao, DTU Vice-Provost, and an inspiration of the founding of the DTU Student movement explains: “The Automatic Cocktail Mixer is one of the many practical startup projects that students have developed at our university. We have always understood the importance of such projects, invested in them and encouraged and supported our students in all their study and research to create practical products with broad applicability.”
