The ISIT-DTU team scored 2,000 points and came 9th in the 12th Cyber-Security WhiteHat Contest, which took place on September 10th and 11th. They held their own against strong teams from forty-five different countries, including South Korea, Poland, Japan and the Ukraine.
The ISIT-DTU team always does well in Cyber-Security contests
The WhiteHat and Capture The Flag contests are held quarterly by Bkav. The contests are based on the WhiteHat War Game, at http://wargame.whitehat.vn, which enables Cyber-Security enthusiasts to practice CTF games. This contest attracted 243 teams from 45 countries and contestants tackled a wide variety of challenges, including Web Vuln, Reverse, Pwnable, Forensics and Crypto.
Recently, the ISIT-DTU team had entered the finals of a competition to research new information systems that were similar to ones being currently used in public services. The contest was held from September 22nd to 26th in Hanoi and jointly sponsored by the Agence Francaise de Developpement and the Association of Vietnamese Scientists Experts (AVSE).
The ISIT-DTU team qualified for the finals based on their previous achievements in Cyber-Security contests, interviews concerning the team’s experience in Cyber-Security and by answering multiple-choice questions. The Organizers financed the team to enter the finals in Hanoi and it became the only team from the Central Region to compete with two other teams from the South and five from the North.
Truong Manh Dat, an ISIT-DTU team member, said: “We have learnt a lot participating in Cyber-Security contests. Now we are practicing hard for the forthcoming competition, which will be a great opportunity for the Vietnamese Cyber-Security community to share experience together. Participants will be able to demonstrate their skills building CMS applications and Cyber-Security solutions in a very short time, which will help them all to find better jobs on graduation.”
Over the years, DTU students have attained impressive accomplishments at regional and national competitions, including:
(1) Becoming the only team from the Central Region to enter the National Finals of the Information Security Students Contest over the past years, winning several valuable awards.
(2) Coming 6th in the 2015 Cyber SeaGame contest.
(3) As the only Vietnamese team, coming 4th in the 2016 SCRT Information Security competition in Geneva, Switzerland.
