On February 29th, DTU’s Institute for Research and Training in Medicine, Biology and Pharmacology, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology Transfer and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, organized a Health Science conference to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors’ Day. It paved the way for the selection of topics for the agenda of the 18th Vietnamese Youth Science and Technology Conference of Universities and Colleges in Medicine and Pharmacology. Attendees included the DTU Board of Provosts, members of the Research Institute, staff of the Department of Science and Technology Transfer and lecturers from the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacology and Nursing.

Overviews of nine interesting, high-profile topics were presented. These included an assessment of current studies on antidepressants, the results of a survey on hypertension and stroke prevention, a survey on the prevention and management of acute diarrhea in mothers of children under five and research into the value of the procalcitonin serum in diagnosing sepsis in children.

“Study, research and the application of new scientific findings all have an important role to play in continuing to improve health care in Vietnam,” stressed Associate Professor Minh. “At this conference we are sharing the latest information available on these key topics and, at the same time, encouraging and promoting concentrated Health Sciences research at our university. Careful planning and investment in such projects at DTU proves the success of this conference.”
The organizers selected four of the best projects for presentation at the 18th Vietnamese Youth Science and Technology Conference of Universities and Colleges in Medicine and Pharmacology, to be held in May at the Danang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacology. The conference will demonstrate how our Medicine, Pharmacy, and Nursing students access the most advanced technical information and confirm DTU’s interest in the education and nurturing of research staff to steadily improve the quality of our local medical workforce.
