Meet DTU’s 2015-2016 Valedictorians

On the eve of the 2016 enrollment season, we spoke with the most recent outstanding Duy Tan University students to learn about their secrets of becoming valedictorians and obtaining  valuable partial or full academic scholarships.

“Crossing the Dragon Gate” with flying colors in the 2015 National High School exams brought opportunities to study and win scholarships at several prestigious universities. However, over the past two years many students broke with tradition by choosing private instead of public universities. Many chose Duy Tan University as the launching pad for their future ambitions.

Nguyen Dinh Khanh - Electronic Automation Valedictorian (25.25/30)

Tran Dinh Khanh, from Binh Dinh, fell under the spell of production lines and machinery while watching a foreign documentary television He has been dreamed of becoming an electrical engineer since he was young. Encouraged and supported by his mother, a senior high school teacher, Khanh took the initiative at high school and pursued his passion.

The characteristics of an electrical engineer were quickly evident. Khanh was good at physics and obtained a district consolation prize for talented students and he has many physics books. He also researches the latest machinery on the internet and often takes electrical household equipment to pieces to examine the interiors and find out how they work.

I don’t just want to control machines, Khanh explains, “I also want to create useful machines of my own. I am amazed by DTU’s robots, conceived and developed by the Faculty of Electronics, including the warning system for vehicles at traffic lights, the safe-driving equipment with a voice, designed for SMLLC Phu Thien Hung, Danang, the robot that guides pedestrians across the road, the HEPTM smart-parking system and many more. I hope one day that I can also design some equipment for use in our everyday lives.”

Phuong Nam - Software Engineering CMU Program Valedictorian (25/30)

With his score, many universities had their doors wide open for him, but Phuong Nam decisively chose DTU and convinced three close friends to come with him. “I did some thorough research and discovered that DTU’s Information Technology program, in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University, has implemented the latest teaching methods to combine theory, practice and business”, Phuong Nam explains. “This course equips students with solid knowledge in their field and also improves their practical skills. DTU’s Information Technology students also have a tradition of winning big prizes in national and international contests and the percentage of graduates getting jobs immediately is high. We feel very confident about the quality of education at DTU.”

Phuong Nam idolizes famous people such as Bill Gates, founder of the Microsoft Corporation, and Nguyen Tu Quang, creator of the Bkav antivirus software. At DTU, his goal is to develop software that can help improve people’s lives already and he is motivated to participate in research projects from the start.

Nguyen Hoang Hai - Accounting and Auditing Valedictorian (25.5/30)

From Quang Nam, Nguyen Hoang Hai often makes people think twice when she first meets them because of her masculine name. This valedictorian has a very impressive string of achievements to her name, having been an outstanding pupil for 12 years in a row. She is also particularly dynamic in her studies and used to be responsible for Arts in her class. The deepest influence on Hoang Hai’s life has been her mother. The professional dedication and studiousness she learned from her mother have made Hoang Hai a careful and mature woman, always ready to listen to others and is always the object of their affection.

Hoang Hai has a big dream: “In the future, I want to become a Chief Accountant or company executive. My aspirations will come true if I work hard and do my best continuously, at all times.” 

Huynh Phuong Thao Vy - On-Site Study-Abroad program Valedictorian (26.5/30)

As a student of the Phan Chau Trinh High School in Danang, she discovered a passion for business and wanted to have access to one of the world’s most advanced education systems, Thao Vy joined the DTU On-Site Study-Abroad program, in collaboration with Upper Iowa University in the United States. Thao Vy’s was jubilant when she was accepted to study Business Administration and offered a full scholarship, worth 800 million VND, for DTU’s On-Site Study-Abroad program. This has motivated her to concentrate intensively on her studies, with no more worries about how her family can pay for tuition.

Nurturing the aspiration to study and dedicate themselves to the community, DTU students have been reaping the benefits of their chosen paths. In 2016-2017, DTU will welcome new students and help them all to make their dreams come true.
