More than fifty Master’s degree graduates from universities nationwide attended the first International Summer School, from August 18th to 21st at DTU. The event was sponsored by the British Council of Vietnam to assist Vietnamese students to learn how to apply for scholarships to study for a PhD in Electrical Engineering in developed countries.
Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co addresses the meeting
In his opening remarks, Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co, DTU President and Provost, said: “The exchange of scientific information, nationally and worldwide, has become essential in the age of globalization. After twenty years of development, DTU has gained significant achievements in the refinement of human resources, facilities, student population and so on. DTU always considers how to enhance the quality of its research to contribute to the improvement of the quality of education, in order to meet the increasing local demands for a highly-qualified workforce. In collaboration with the British Council of Vietnam , DTU hosts the first International Summer School, to encourage the strengthening of research and consequently broaden opportunities for scholarships for graduates to apply for further studies in developed countries.”

The first International Summer School was sponsored by the Newton Fund of the British Council. During lectures by Dr. Young Wook Ko of Queen’s University in Belfast, Dr. Maged Elkashian and Dr. Duong Quang Trung of Queen Mary’s University in London, Dr. Le Ngoc Phuc of Wollongong University in Australia and Dr. Ha Dac Binh of Duy Tan University, participants were introduced to much new advanced research information, including tips on how to produce effective references and citations, how to avoid plagiarizing, the range of scientific writing styles, presentation techniques, ISI paper formats, the use of software in research and computational applications and research methods in Electrical Engineering, IT, and other fields.
Dr. Trung said: “This first International Summer School at DTU is for those who have been awarded their PhDs abroad to share their expertise in research, with the objective of teaching participants about the latest research methodologies and how to avoid disappointment when applying for foreign PhD programs.”
