On August 7th, the Vietnam Society of Solid Mechanics joined with DTU to hold the 12th National Conference on Solid Mechanics, which was attended by three hundred representatives from educational institutions nationwide, who contributed two hundred papers.
The Chairman of the Vietnam Society of Solid Mechanics addresses the conference
Professor Tran Ich Thinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Society of Solid Mechanics, said: “The 12th National Conference on Solid Mechanics at DTU has attracted the highest number of scientists and lecturers so far. The content of your reports was especially diverse and addressed many fields, from fundamental research to applications, from the mechanics of materials to building structures. DTU and your enthusiasm have made a significant contribution to the success of this conference. We should implement many more action plans to improve research in this field.”
Pro. Vu Xuan Quang, DTU Vice-Provost speaks
On behalf of DTU, Professor Vu Xuan Quang, Vice-Provost, said: “DTU is honored to host the 12th National Conference on Solid Mechanics. This has become an important forum for scientists to exchange information and experiences and learn more about the latest developments in Solid Mechanics. Recently, DTU has focused on enhancing education and research standards by inviting Vietnamese and foreign scientists to DTU to present papers on theoretical and applied research topics. Research conducted by DTU scientists has been published internationally in specialized journals. In 2014 alone, DTU had 54 publications in ISI-indexed journals. DTU is striving to strengthen cooperation with more scientists to implement new research projects, in Physics and Mechanics, at DTU and throughout Danang.”
Scientists and lecturers
The papers focused on solutions on current aspects in this specialized field, including current challenges in the Mechanics of Deformable Solids, the Mechanics of Composite Materials and Structures, Construction Dynamics, Optimization and Structural Reliability, new experimental and technological methods in Mechanics, education and training in Mechanics of Deformable Solids, solutions, applications, and relationships with industry. Two hundred papers were presented in eight parallel sessions and eighty-two posters. DTU contributed nine papers, including “Assessing the Influence of Material Thickness by Ultrasound Propagation Speed in Cortical Bone Applications”, “Simulation of Ultrasound Propagation in Inhomogeneous Media in Cortical Bone Applications”, “A Technical Model to Compute Fire Resistance of Hollow Brick Walls Built with Thin Adhesive Mortar and Covered with a Protective Plaster Layer”, and “Oscillations in Multi-Story Flat Frame Structures, Considering Material Impenetrability in the Form of Distance Parameters”. After being presented at the conference, the papers were discussed and evaluated.
The Ministry of Science and Technology has just released a list of the top 20 institutions with the most publications in ISI-indexed journals from 2010 to 2014, which includes DTU. The university has had twelve papers in the field of Solid Mechanics published in ISI-indexed journals.
