DTU Comes Second in the 2014 Student with Information Security Contest

DTU became the only private university nationwide to enter the finals of the 2014 Student with Information Security competition, held in Hanoi on November 22nd. They came in second in the preliminary round of the Southern section on November 8th, hosted by the University of Information Technology of Vietnam National University, in Ho Chi Minh City.
 
 
Thirty-seven teams participated in the preliminary rounds for the Southern and Northern regions of Vietnam, from twenty-six institutions nationwide. These teams competed in multiple-choice and practical tests.
 
The ISIT1-DTU team took second place, after the UIT-NAVI team of the University of Information Technology at Vietnam National University.  DTU beat out other strong competitors, such as the Academy of Cryptography Techniques, Hoa Sen University, Vietnam National University and others, to top the multiple-choice test with a core of 86/100.
 
The ISIT1-DTU team now enters the national finals in Hanoi, competing with five other strong contestants. These are the RedSky team from the Hanoi University of Technology, the X-Hunter team from the Academy of Cryptography Techniques, the UEF-Freya team from the VNU University of Engineering & Technology, the UIT-NAVI team from the Information Technology University at VNU, Ho Chi Minh City and the Bkit-Respawn team from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. DTU is the only team from a private university to reach the finals, three years in a row now.
 
Tran Huu Phu Cuong, from K-17 TMT, in the DTU Faculty of Information Technology, and a member of the ISIT1-DTU, said: “This competition really means a lot to me. It proves how important my major is and helps me learn more about IT. The modern facilities at DTU and its internationally-standardized programs from Carnegie Mellon University provide us with an excellent opportunity to understand more about Information Security and to improve my qualifications.”
