Founded in 1901, Cal Poly is rated the second best university on the West Coast. Cal Poly is ranked the fifth of in Architecture B.A. programs in 2013. It offers 64 Bachelor’s, 31 Master’s and one Doctorate of Education program.
DTU is the first and largest private university in the Central Region of Vietnam. Over the years, DTU has taken several strategic steps to improve the quality of education of many programs, including Architecture and Construction. DTU has cooperated with Cal Poly to develop CSU Architecture and Construction programs, which are highly evaluated by ABET, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, providing local and regional students with the first international standard programs in Architecture and Construction.
With this world-class program, students are able to access the most advanced information on Architectural development, under the guidance of DTU lecturers trained at Cal Poly, as well as visiting experts from the US. Students are also provided with intensive English training to improve their international communication abilities. In order to design flexible and interesting curricula, DTU has also provided students with the opportunity to learn more about Vietnamese architectural heritage sites, such as the Hue Citadel, the Ancient Town of Hoi An, the My Son Holy Land and so on. In doing so, Architectural graduates of the CSU program will surely meet the evolving complex requirements of the international labor market.
With tuition fee of 18,000,000 vnd/year (about $900/year), CSU students at DTU will ultimately receive Bachelor of Architecture degrees from Duy Tan University, consisting of at least 18 courses, issued by Cal Poly on graduation. After the first or the second year of study at DTU, they will be able to apply for a transfer program to Cal Poly and return to Vietnam for employment on graduation.
The DTU team at the IDEERS Competition
Benefitting from the strengths and benefits of these CSU programs, DTU students of Architecture and Construction have ably demonstrated their abilities and talents in recent national and international competitions.
Recently, DTU students have achieved one first, three second, seven third and one consolation prize at the National Loa Thanh Tournament for Civil Engineers and Architects. Dang Xuan Nam became the first student from a private university to win first prize in the 2010 National Loa Thanh Tournament. He also won three first, one second and one third prize in the 2012 National Architectural Festival. In addition, the DTU IDEERS Team came seventh out of 102 teams in a competition to introduce and demonstrate earthquake engineering research in schools in 2012. The team won a consolation prize, which was the first IDEERS award won by Vietnamese students in international competition. This demonstrated that the high standard of the CSU course, which makes it the best choice for talented and motivated students of architecture.
From 24/8 to 15/9, Associate Professor Dennis Robert Holloway, who received his Master’s of Architecture degree in Urban Design (MAUD) from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, will visit Danang. During this time he will work with DTU architectural students on a project to design and develop disaster protected housing, in the new DTU design studio located in the Khanh Nam Ward, in the Lien Chieu District of Danang.
