ComManTel 2013 was the first conference that IEEE had organized in Vietnam. Official sponsors were Duy Tan University of Danang, the Radio and Electronics Association of Vietnam (REA) and Ho Chi Minh City, and the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (Nafosted).

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Le Nguyen Bao, the DTU Vice-Provost, emphasized: "ComManTel 2013 is an important opportunity to introduce, discuss and exchange the latest information about electro-mechanics and telecommunications, as well as their applications in real-life. Hopefully, all attendees will acquire much new knowledge and experience and extend their relationships after the event. I expect that the conference will become the starting point for successful partnerships allowing DTU to conduct scientific research with many other universities and institutes all over the world in the near future."

ComManTel 2013 attendees included leading scientists and media representatives from Vietnam and abroad. Before the conference started, conference organizers had received 125 papers sent by scientists from all over the world, of which the best sixty-four were approved for release through IEEE JoC, FTRA Publishing, the IJITCC Journal, InderScience, Peer-to-Peer Networking and Applications and the Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks of Hindawi.
