Gen Z Personalities in DTU Graduation Projects for Fashion and Digital Art Design

Graduation and course projects by students in Fashion Design and Digital Art Design at DTU are drawing a lot of attention for their individuality, creative thinking, and application of technology throughout. Beyond demonstrating professional skills, each project reflects the aesthetic perspective, visual-storytelling ability, and bold experimental spirit of DTU’s young designers.

Palette of creativity with animation, motion graphics, and game design

During their studies, DTU students of Digital Art Design already get access to the modern facilities of Silver Swallows Studio (SSS): a sound & mixing studio, a motion capture studio, a dedicated visual-effects studio, and high-configuration computer systems capable of handling the most demanding graphic design. This allows students to create a wide range of media products:

-    3D animated films,
-    short films,
-    3D music videos,
-    digital art books for games,
-    environment designs for 3D games,
-    interface designs for mobile applications,
-    motion graphics.

Ho Thi Thu Thao with her graduation project “Tan Than”

Not only their graduation projects, but even course projects by Digital Art Design students at DTU tell a story with a unique style while demonstrating the depth of their technical skills and their ability to use technology with flexibility.
The game art book design Tan Than (New Gods) for Ho Thi Thu Thao’s graduation project received high praise for successfully recreating a mythological world fusing Greek mythology and modern science fiction. The project also established a cohesive game ecosystem in which characters, environments, gameplay, and UI/UX are seamlessly integrated into a unified creative whole.

Chi Ca with her course project “Ve Nha”

The 3D animated film Ve Nha (Coming Home) for a course project by Le Thi Chi Ca captivated audiences with its meaningful journey back to simple and most cherished childhood memories: an old tiled roof, a brick courtyard, a beloved bicycle, a wood stove, wooden furniture, and a green hammock resting quietly under the afternoon sun.

“For my animated film project, I used AI tools to support design documentation, idea development, and the processing of some image material,” Chi Ca says. “This optimized the workflow and left me more time to refine the story, camera angles, and the artistic environment of the film.”

Chi Ca’s clip “Ve Nha” was very well-received

“Digital Art Design at DTU doesn’t stop at mastery of creative processes and professional tools for games, animation, multimedia, and digital communications,” MSc Huynh Thi Thu Mo, PhD student and Head of Digital Art Design at DTU, explains. “It also emphasizes developing project-based thinking, teamwork skills, and a unique artistic identity. As a result, many graduation projects from the class of 2026 and the course projects by current students demonstrate strong personal expression, high professional quality, good ability to convey emotions, and promising potential for commercial development.”

Touching life and emotions through painting

DTU’s F building recently came alive with color with an exhibition of projects by first-year students in Graphic Design and Digital Art Design. It was organized as part of the Basic Drawing 2 course.

The colors of life through the creative and emotionally rich perspectives of DTU students

Under the theme “Life through a personal lens in decorative artwork”, DTU students showcased meticulously crafted decorative artwork measuring 40 x 60 cm, professionally presented in carefully framed displays. Besides demonstrating their abilities in composition, color application, and decorative design, each artwork also reflected each student’s artistic perspectives and left their distinct personal marks.

Beyond the exhibition itself, the end-of-course evaluation became a memorable experience where students could confidently present their ideas, engage in professional discussions with lecturers, receive feedback, and gradually refine their aesthetic thinking and professional skills. Hands-on experiences like these, introduced as early as the first year, give DTU students exposure to a professional learning environment and the real-world standards of the design industry.

Nineteen fashion collections inspired by Vietnamese cultural heritage

Under the theme “From heritage to imagination”, DTU’s young fashion designers presented nineteen collections for their graduation projects, each bearing a personal cachet. Drawing inspiration from the roots of Vietnamese culture, each of the DTU students’ collections skillfully blended traditional motifs with modern techniques and aesthetics, local materials with the language of international fashion, to create imaginative dialogues between past and future.

The collection Fog Within by Eban

Judged the most outstanding collection, Fog Within by student Y Phieu Eban impressed with its horror- avant-garde style. It was inspired by the world of psychology and character imagery from Silent Hill. Fog Within uses a diverse range of materials: faux leather, mesh, chiffon, treated denim, stretch fabrics, and handcrafted raised-texture details. Through expressive fashion design, the collection explores the darker corners of the human psyche and the journey of confronting hidden emotions and inner loneliness.

Designs by DTU students captured the attention

“My skills in fashion design, creative thinking, and the process of building a complete fashion collection from concept research, silhouette development, material treatment, and color palette to styling and final product, were developed throughout my studies,” Eban explains. “This has given me a solid professional foundation and the ability to systematically develop ideas. DTU has also created the best conditions for all students to freely express their individuality through design and experiment with artistic concepts. Our lecturers are always there for us, guide us, refine technical aspects, and strengthen the content of our projects. This gives us confidence while working on our graduation projects.”

From the very first projects by first-year students to graduation projects with a distinct professional imprint, the educational journey of DTU students in design and the fine arts is not merely about acquiring knowledge. It is also a process of self-discovery, nurturing creativity, and shaping the future in a creative and promising industry.
