Nghe An is know is as the “sacred land that gives birth to heroes and literati” and the region is famous for its tradition of hard work, overcoming all difficulties and rising to the top. In the 2020 High School Graduation Exam (HSGE), many Nghe An students performed impressively, with outstanding results. Nguyen Thi Khanh Chi, with 28/30, chose to study at DTU, majoring in Marketing Administration, and received a full scholarship to enter the Keuka Business Administration ADP program, graduating in Vietnam with an American degree.

Studying hard is the fastest way out of poverty

Khanh Chi grew up in a poor farming family in Bai Oi hamlet, in the Chi Khe commune in Nghe An. Her parents worked hard all year round to make ends meet and send their three children to school. “I witnessed their hardship and all the work they did for us and often wondered if I should drop out of school to assist them financially and improve my younger siblings study conditions,” explains Khanh Chi. “But my father would not allow me to do so and encouraged me to continue. He said that, although we were poor, he wanted me to have a bright future and that studying was the fastest way out of poverty. Since then, every time I have had problems in my studies or feel pressured, I remember his words of motivation and reach upward to realize my dreams.”

“Geography is a fascinating subject covering a broad range of knowledge,” sad Khanh Chi, explaining her achievements in Geography. “My secret is to master the subject, even though I already love it. I am interested in learning about both the natural and social influences around me and I research extra information independently. I combine theory and practice by creating charts and maps in an atlas to boost my memory. Meanwhile, my teacher has also always wholeheartedly advised and encouraged me to study diligently.”

Bearing fruit in the studious land of Nghe An

Khanh Chi added: “I’ve been interested in numbers since childhood and always had an affinity for Math, so my ambition is to become a successful businesswoman to help my family. My first choice was to enroll in the DTU Keuka Business Administration degree program and two of my Nghe An classmates will join me to study Multimedia Communications and Marketing Administration.”

“I wanted to learn in a dynamic environment with expert foreign lecturers and DTU offered me that.” Khanh Chi explained. “I chose the Keuka Business Administration ADP program because I can conserve tuition fees and travel to the US on exchange to learn more, but graduate here in Vietnam with an American degree. This is something we all dream of. I am extremely lucky, now I resolve to study hard and not betray the faith of my family, teachers and loved ones.”
