DTU Wins “Well-Rounded” prize at the 2018 National Architecture Festival

DTU became the only university in Central Vietnam with top achievements in the 2018 Architecture Festival, winning one Well-Rounded, three first, two second, one third and two consolation prizes. The festival was hosted by the University of Architecture in Ho Chi Minh City from April 23rd to 26th and 400 students from Vietnam, Assumption University in Thailand and the University of Semarang in Indonesia participated.

“Urban Space Vitality” was the theme of this year’s festival and contestants were divided into 4 groups, Quick Design A, Quick Design B, Arts and Photography. The new format helped students work together and jointly demonstrate their skills. 

The Well-Rounded prize was awarded to Group 3 who won the most prizes, including one first in Quick Design A, one first in Quick Design B and one first in Presentation.
  
Pham Quang Luan, from the DTU Faculty of Architecture, won a first prize in Quick Design B, with a project entitled “What do you see in Saigon?”, which was highly praised for its innovation. He was a member of Group 3 who won a Well-Rounded prize.

Pham Quang Luan said: "It is quite important for me and my team to participate in the 4-day Architecture Festival. Thanks to DTU and the faculty for allowing us to broaden our knowledge, skills and practical experience."

The first prize in Arts was awarded to Group 2, with the topic “Switch”, with Vo Van Du from DTU in Group 2 painting a picture of an old Chinatown set amongst modern street blocks.

The first prize in Photography went to Group 18, with “Vertical axis of heritage”, with Pham Anh Hao, a DTU student and his group, designing a mascot made of red cloth and iron. 

In addition, DTU won one second, one third and one consolation prize in the Quick Design A round. They also won one second and one consolation prize in the Quick Design B round.

DTU has partnered with California State University, Fullerton and Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo (CSU - CalState), the two leading universities on the American West Coast in Architecture and Construction, to develop the first advanced programs in the Central region of Vietnam. As a result, DTU has proved its talents in many national festivals over the years.

An architect, Dr. Le Vinh An, Dean of the DTU Faculty of Architecture, said: “At the 2018 Festival of Architecture teams shared their experiences and demonstrated their skills and teamwork. The DTU delegation of 25 outstanding students participated in the festival with enthusiasm and won major prizes. DTU proudly received rotating banners for hosting the festival and for acting as Chairperson of the 2018-2020 National Architect Training Club.”
