E-government Device from Tech Demo 2017

The device is the result of the “Print/Scan/Copy Self-Service System” project (or DTUSSM for short), a collaboration between de Center for Electricity and Electronics (CEE, in charge of the project) and the Center for Software Engineering (CSE) ordered by their host institution Duy Tan University.

The idea arose from the need for a self-service embedded system including printing, scanning, and copying for use at DTU.

The device will be used for printing, scanning of documents, and photocopying of documentation by students, staff, and lecturers of the school. It offers an easy and rapid way for people to print, scan, and copy without assistance on how to operate the machine. Even a lack of paper is remotely notified to the administrator through email or text message.

The device includes an embedded system with integrated printing, scanning, and copying functionality (DTUSSM for short) in one multifunctional machine; and one device (integrated embedded board system) to communicate with and to receive commands from the user and to control the multipurpose printer.

The device can read and write documents on flash drive, microSD memory card, and from email; it can store scans on flash drive, microSD card, and send them through email (e-government information system account document applications in will be developed for use in public services), copy original hardcopy, and can be of help with plastic cards with a barcode printed, RFID magnetic cards, chip cards, and fingerprints.

CEE Deputy Director Tran Le Thang Dong explained the device has been researched and designed 100% by Vietnamese talent, and that it is easy to repair, easy to operate, and friendly to Vietnamese people. It can furthermore be customized according to diverse client requirements.

In addition, clients can also integrate video or slide advertisements on the screen of the device or add business message board functionality. The machine is designed in one part that is easily moved and installed. It is, in particular, cheaper than imported equivalents.

In addition to having it available for DTU, the CEE is also about to produce it for any organization or person that requires it , in particular to the city administrative center and to the departments for receiving and submitting documentation (one-stop-shop) at government agencies. Its scanning functionality is really useful for use in on-the-spot online public services and for next-transaction requirements.

Collecting fees for using the device is also very simple: either directly or online through the civilian, organization, or business’s (e-government information system) account through the built-in authentication. Administrating the machine and collecting statistics is easy through the afore-mentioned account or through a barcode card (which registered users will be issued with). Most convenient is that money can be deposited in a slot (accepting 1,000 to 20,000 VND notes).

At Tech Demo 2017, organized in Danang (from November 22 to 24) jointly by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Danang People’s Committee, the Self-Service Print/Scan/Copy System was one of only a few digital devices, but it still attracted a lot of interest.
