Duy Tan University organized the 2016 Student Research Conference, to discover new student ideas and evaluate the quality of their research projects. On April 12th, students presented their projects and on April 14th, students demonstrated their prototypes to the judges, who then selected the winners. The conference was attended by Professor Vu Xuan Quang, Vice-Provost and Chairman of the DTU Scientific Board, the organizers and lecturers and students from all faculties.

Professor Vu Xuan Quang said: “At DTU, research is mandatory. Our objective is to improve the level and quality of education, and the professionalism of our lecturers. Recently students have also been encouraged to conduct their own research to broaden their specialized knowledge. This annual conference will help students to further understand and appreciate research methods and how to develop their own personalized projects independently.”
The conference was divided into four sections: Electrical, Electronics and IT, Environmental, Construction and Architecture, Health Sciences, and Economic and Social Science. Thirty papers were presented and their scope was quite diverse this year, ranging from real-life issues to projects related to education and in-depth scientific research. The Electrical, Electronics and IT projects were oriented towards designing useful and practical products. The Environmental, Construction and Architectural projects were also designed to be useful in the community. Most of the Economic and Social Science projects were for application in urban and tourism settings, whilst Health Science focused on medical applications. Later that day, the five best projects were presented at the plenary session.

In addition to the DTU projects, other projects were presented that had previously won prizes in the National 2015/16 Science and Technology contest for High School students. These included a Braille printer for the visually impaired, by a team of students from Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted in Danang, an automatic chicken feeder, from the Bac Tra My High School in Quang Nam, and a laser carver, with an in-built drawing function, using a numerically controlled computer, from the Phan Chau Trinh High School in Danang.
The quality of this year’s projects convinced the judges that students had made significant progress since last year and come up with some excellent products that were all highly practical in today’s environment. However, these projects had already required some investment and would require further investment for future development and implementation to become profitable.
After careful consideration, the decision was made to award the first five prizes to the “Smart Condom Dispenser” project, by the DTU Faculty of Electrical Engineering team, to the “Extraction and Analysis of Biologically Active Tam Cam Substances” project, from the DTU Faculty of Pharmacy, to the “Student Satisfaction PSU Program Survey”, from the DTU International School, to the “Research into the Treatment of Aquaculture Wastewater, Containing the chlorella vulgaris Algae”, from the DTU Faculty of Environmental Engineering, and to the “Protection and Cultural Exploitation of the Guol Houses of the Ethnic Co Tu Community in the Dong Giang district of Quang Nam”, by Nguyen Hoang Linh Chi, from the DTU Faculty of Social Science and Humanities.
Two second prizes went to projects by students from the Faculties Environment and Information Technology and one third prize to a project by students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. In addition, four Exhibition prizes were awarded to the “Glasses for the Visually Impaired” project, with first prize, to the “Intelligent Condom Dispenser”, with second prize, and to the “Hand-Held Car Parking Machine” and the “Research and Design of a Numerically Controlled Computer, with two joint third prizes.
Begun in 2012, the DTU Student Research Conference is annually organized to encourage study and research at DTU. Lecturers, post-graduates and students of all faculties can share their experiences in research and discuss methodologies.
